Hooks has given a lot back to society, she has published books, educated students, and helped chance society. She gives great perspective on how African American women have been oppressed by society. Bell hooks has made great contributions to society with the books she has published. Many of her written works have promoted change, activism, and feminism movements. Hooks book “Teaching to Transgress”, discusses the issues of marginality an cultural alienation that are so prevalent among certain groups within American society and presents strategies to help develop critical consciousness and affirmation. She also discusses throughout her activism, thoughts on the dynamics of our culture and being a woman living the ‘Black experience’. In her book titled “Aint I A Woman”, bell talks about how black women during slavery were impacted by sexism. She also shares insights on black male and female sexism, the timeline of how black women are underestimated when it comes to their importance, and examples within the Women’s Movement of racism. This book is a great contribution to the feminist movement. Another great book of hooks is “Breaking Bread: Insurgent Black Intellectual Life”, which brings to light the oppression, success, and discrepancies of ‘Black intellectual life’. This book is a collaboration with Cornel West giving renewal to spirits and preserving peoples hopes by looking in to the traditions of sharing in different aspects of life. Bell Hooks has also collaborated with fellow activists and professors on ideas dealing with social informalities. Her work is widely known amongst many feminist activist, students, and celebrities. Hooks is a sharp and enormous voice with in feminist community.
